In November 2013, the first results of the CECILIA2050 research project have been presented by members of the CECILIA2050 consortium during two side events of the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference took place from 11 to 22 November 2013 in Warsaw, Poland.
The first side event regarding CECILA2050 was called “Optimising climate policy - EU experience & industrial innovation” and focused on the state of play of the climate policy mix in the EU at regional and national level. Also during the event, members of the CECILIA2050 consortium discussed with other experts in the field of climate policy what can be learnt from current experience on EU climate policy and how the future instrument mix can be improved.
The second side event, entitled “Triggering innovation for decarbonisation”, was held on 20 November 2013. It was joint event of the CECILIA2050 research project and its “sister project” ENTRACTE. The leading questions of the event were to what extent EU climate policies have been able to trigger low-carbon innovations, and how the future EU climate policy framework can become more conducive to such innovations. The panel consisted of experts from the two research projects as well as a high-level member of the European Commission.
